You’ve definitely gotten my interest, and I would appreciate more discussion on the subject. Obviously the system here is flawed and needs some major modification.
Thank you Huey, I agree. I used to live abroad and the proportional system and parliamentary system with a Prime Minister make much better sense. I would love to see us make this change. I would also like to hear you explain more, so others can get a deeper understanding of the differences.
As an additional point, if a newly elected president wanted to change this system, they should just do what Trump has done at every turn, rule by fiat. Just write a presidential order and change that SH*%! Unfortunately, I'm afraid that the US is too far gone and the days of free and fair elections are now a thing of the past. Once a tyrant tastes power, they will do anything to hold it.
I always thought that gerrymandering was a product of voter party registration. Why does the US political system require voters to register their likely voting bias ahead of elections? Doesn't this open the door to manipulation of voter districts?
Here at home, in Canada, we are not required to file our political affiliation and, even after an election, your vote remains confidential. Yes, the political parties can use data from the last elections to estimate where their votes are strongest, but that usually just means that politicians need to concentrate their effort in those areas where they need to win votes, or not, depending if it's a lost cause, ie. Liberals in Alberta.
Constantly changing the district maps is just a blatant manipulation exercised by the political party that is in power. The whole thing is ludicrous.
Thanks. This is so relevant so I’d like more on the subject and also what a parliamentary government would look like in the US.
