Recap: JP confessed to the CIA that he led Penny into the trap because he wanted to protect the Chinese spy he fell for.
Chapter 14: A Traitor for A Killer
Gary storms into the interrogation room before JP even finishes the confession. He grabs JP’s collar and pushes him backward as far as the chair allows.
“I’m sorry, old man,” JP says.
“You’re sorry? If you betrayed the agency, I’d cover it up for you. If you betrayed the fucking country, I’d cover it up for you. But Penny? You betrayed our girl? You want the Chinese to break her legs with those tiger benches? What is wrong with you!” The other people in the room have to drag him away before he breaks JP’s neck.
“I deserve every accusation you will pile on me, old man, but not this,” says JP. “I’d never wish any harm on Penny. The Chinese want her to trade for the arms dealer we nipped in Thailand last year. That guy is actually a nephew of General Lu Yikang. Penny was supposed to be their bargaining chip. They have no motivation to harm her.”
“Why her?”
