Here are the raw script:
This is the biggest Trump scandal yet. I couldn’t believe my eyes. If you have followed me for a while, you should know how low my expectations are about this guy. But this is worse than my worst nightmare. He’s creating a worldwide recession based on completely made up numbers.
When he announced his new tariffs, he whipped out this big board showing two columns of numbers. The first column is supposed to be the tariffs other countries collect from US products.
But people were totally confused because none of these numbers was right. Which ass did he pull these numbers from? People on social media started trying to crack the code in a panic mode.
It turns out that these numbers have nothing to do with tariffs. These percentages are calculated using that country’s trade surplus divided by their export to the US. What?
Trade surplus and tariffs are two different things.
They’re not proportional either. I doubt they’re even statistically correlated.
Let me use this example again.
If I have a shop selling snacks. And you have a shop selling meat. And if I spend more money in your shop then you spend in my shop, it does not mean you have a fucking tariff against me. It’s just that I happen to need more meat than you need snacks. There is no tariffs between our shops for fuck’s sake!
And Donald and his whole economic team just use that number, how much meat I bought compared to how much candy you bought, to approximate tariffs. What kind of math is that? You guys are the United States government, you have all the actual data to calculate the actual tariffs. The only reason you don’t do that, is because everyone in your team has an F in math and economics. Or maybe you guys all graduated from Putin University.
Then, there’s another weird thing. If this column is other countries’ trade surplus, how come they’re all positive? Some countries do have a trade deficit with the US, which means their numbers should be negative, right? No. Trump gave a 10% to every country that have a trade deficit with the US. Whether they’re negative 2%, negative 5%, negative 20%, they’re all assigned a 10% value. This way, he can punish a country even if it buys more things than it sells. Even if you have zero tariffs and you buy American products like crazy, it doesn’t mean shit, you still end up getting the 10% “retaliatory” tariffs. Retaliatory against what?
So they don’t just have wrong calculations, they make up fake numbers when the wrong calculations don’t suit them well enough.
They’re creating a worldwide recession based on these wrong and fake numbers.
Look at this:
They put 49% on Cambodia. Do you have any idea how poor that country is? Their per capita consumption is 12 hundred dollars, which means on average, each person spends 3 and a half dollars a day. And you want to punish them for not buying US products. What US product can they buy with three and a half dollars a day? Cyber trucks. They’re junk, but they’re still expensive. You’re gonna destroy their livelihood by imposing a 49 fucking percent tariff?
My god. This is like you drive up to a homeless person selling flowers, and you’re like, “Hey, I bought your flowers a few times. How come you never bought anything I sell, like, you know, condos? You’re taking advantage of me. I’m gonna tell my employees not to buy flowers from you!”
That’s how utterly petty Uncle Sam is right now.
BTW, not just the administration. The entire American news media right now is silent about that shitty math. Two British outlets talked about it in detail, but not American ones. The innumeracy is universal in the American “elite” class.
The only good part about this is that the Trump voters will suffer just like other people on the planet. I know they will lick their wound and keep suporting Trump for a third fucking term because that’s what they do. They’re all closet masochists, sexually attracted to abusive assholes. They can’t help.
